Grab and Scroll iconGrab and scroll anywhere in your Safari browser to scroll. Just like you would on an iPad, iPhone and in Acrobat Reader. Some people call it "drag scrolling", some call it "auto scroll".

  1. Finally a good scroll solution for my intues3 wacom tablet.
I have tried the smart scroll app for a couple of weeks, but I found out it give me default shortcut problems in safari. This extension works perfect. Great job.

  2. Thanks, Robin. I appreciate the feedback.

Actually, I asked Apple to remove it from the official extensions gallery due to bugs in Safari 6. I changed the plugin a bit since then, but what version are you using?

  3. Hi Seph, i'm using Grab And Scroll 1.1 with safari 6.0.3
I downloaded it from your website. Your extension is still a lifesaver since mac scroll bars aren’t friendly anymore for pointer devices like my Wacom Intuos3.
I experienced some bugs as well in safari 6.0.3 but maybe you have fix this in a new version other than 1.1

The pointer of my Wacom pen is set as click and I disable all other btn’s on my pen. Your extension work perfect if I press and move my pen up and down. Sometimes the extension doesn’t work on sites like http://macscripter.net and https://extensions.apple.com Maybe this has something to do with mouse scroll events in the sites.
Since i’m a Wacom Intuos3 user i would be great if you can improve your extension for Wacom users.
I found an interested link for Javascripte Applications that maybe can help you too get around some bugs.

Hopefully you have the time to improve your well needed extension.
    See you soon.
    Robin.

  5. Hi Robin

No extension will work on extensions.apple.com. This is a reasonable security measure Apple made to prevent extensions from takeovers.

With regards to macscripter, I have no issues with the site. Can you try this version instead:
    http://www.seph.dk/grab-and-scroll/grab-and-scroll-1.2.safariextz
    – And let me know if that fixes it for you. Please be aware that version 1.2 is radically different from 1.1, which is why I havn't released it yet. Version 1.2 will break scrolling animations on sites, if you are drag-scrolling at the same time instead of the other way around.

    Regards
    Seph

  6. I cannot install this on Safari for Windows 5.17 (Vista Home Pro), the installer gives me an error when I click on the extension to the effect that this extension could not be installed on Safari." It sounds like exactly what I was looking for though.

  7. Edward, I have to admit that I havn't tested it on Windows. I thought that Safari was only "actually" used on Mac. I'll test it out as soon as possible and see if I can make a fix.

  8. hi, it works great on safari 6.0.4 for Mac just issues when you must click on buttons like OK or gmail buttons for confirm something. you can do it like grab and drag extension for firefox?? thanks in advance, Marco

  9. Thank you for a great extension!

I like using it without modifier keys enabled on my Wacom tablet. It's perfect for that. It would be nice if the modifier keys could be used to temporarily disable it if needed.

A very handy extension indeed :)

  10. pardon me … The horizontal scrollbar is unresponsive when the extension is used without a modifier key (which is how I'd prefer to use it). With a modifier key enabled, you can use the scrollbar to move horizontally, but the cursor still will not drag the page horizontally.

  11. Hi Don Fraser

I would not recommend using it without a modifier key. I considered removing the feature since it has a *lot* of issues and problematic cases attached like, when do you mean to click a link, what about when dragging inside a flash movie, etc. Some cases cannot be fixed making it seem the extension only work sporaticly. I prefer users have a nice experience. However, I eventually didn't have the time to remove the feature, so it just stayed. This is one of the reasons I removed the plugin from the official Safari extension gallery – it does still have a couple of issues :-/
If I fix them, I'll post an update for sure.
