New splash screen for jEdit
The following image (first one) is my proposal to a new splash screen for jEdit. The image would, if accepted, replace the classic one (second one) in jEdit and should reflect the default icon and the general feel of the editor.
Update: The second splash screen (and a new about screen based on the same look) has been committed to SVN and will be available in jEdit 4.3pre15.
- First suggestion
- Classic/current splash screen
Inspiration
Since this is only a proposal there may be a lot of changes before any replacements are made. The layout and the elements of the new splash was based on the classic splash since current users shouldn't feel alienated by it.

Looks good, and I like the effort towards getting in line with the new icon theme. Something the current splash screen has going for it though is that it works well with itself. I don't think the orange-yellow works with the brushed steel/gray background.
Perhaps bring back the glossy/glass look that the current one has? I like the separation and brightness change b/w top and bottom.
The current splash icon uses a larger font. Perhaps follow suit?
Personally, I would lowercase the "programmer's text editor", but that may be just me.
The current splash screen includes the full editor name: jEdit.
You might turn the background gray/steel color to a more yellow/orange tint. Perhaps leave the brushed steel effect, though?

Kevin: I've changed the looks a little since your intial comment. I added the "jEdit" title in text and lowercased the tagline. The font sizes has been adjusted and the icon size adjusted as well as the background lighting was changed.
It's all shiny new and waiting in SVN for those who dare to explore it.
