Gaim 1.5 tooltip/buddy image patch

Note: This patch is superseded since Gaim 2.0 (now called Pidgin) where most of the features are available. The patch remains on this site for anyone interested.

Patch features:

• Buddy icons in buddy tooltip. Screenshots below
• Show their nicknames in the titlebar in parentheses (mostly for MSN contacts). Screenshot below
• "Show buddy icon" (as opposed to the "Hide icon" popup menu item) added to conversation menu

Instructions for Linux

1. Download the source for gaim 1.5.0
2. untar the archive: tar xvfj gaim-1.5.0.tar.bz2
3. Download my patch and place it in same folder as the TAR archive
4. patch -p0 < gaim-1.5.0.diff
5. cd gaim-1.5.0/
6. ./configure --prefix=/usr
7. make
8. sudo make install

You might have problems compiling gaim with SSL support which is needed for MSN. Please refer to the Gaim FAQ about SSL.
